Casting Rocks

Our casting rocks are formulated using the same base glass as our Casting Billets. Consequently they share the same melting and viscosity characteristics.

Casting Rocks resist devitrification and are formulated for a low bubble count:

Here is an example:

This small project uses, CR-345-96 Citrine and Colour de Verre's Japanese Scallop mold; no discernable veiling, no devitrification and very low bubble count. The rocks cast clear, deep and glassy looking.

Economical
Casting rocks are our most economical casting product. If your casting needs do not require the size of our carefully formed and carefully anealed Billets, these random sized rocks are an excellent alternative.

Energy Efficient
The System 96 recommended firing temperatures are 20° to 25° less than the recommended firing temperatures for 90 COE glass. A studio with a cast glass production line could spend less on energy bills due to less energy consumption and less wear and tear on their kilns.

Compatibility
Since the same base glass is used for our Billets, Billet Chunks, and Casting Rocks the colors are interchangeable. Additionally, any of our other System 96 products: frit, sheet glass, Noodles & Stringer or Rods can be used with them.
